If you partake in the November holidays, you’ve spent the last few days spending time with your loved ones stuffing your stomachs full of food and your shopping carts full of Black Friday discounts. Tomorrow, Saturday, November 24th, is Small Business Saturday.

Founded and hosted by American Express, Small Business Saturday is a part of the Shop Small Movement. This movement is aimed to entice consumers to forego corporate businesses like Old Navy and Walmart and instead opt for locally- and family-run businesses. As a small business owner/freelancer myself, I whole-heartedly agree and shop small whenever possible.

If you’d like to learn more about the history of Small Business Saturday, check out American Express’ Shop Small page.

Below is a list of some online shops that I have visited and highly recommend. Instagram can be a glorious tool, and one of the reasons I love it so much is because it introduces me to wonderful entrepreneurs who run their own businesses and online shops. From hand-knitted hats to hand-painted dishes to beautiful clothing collections and more, I urge you to take a look and shop small this weekend – and always!

Please note, the list is in no particular order and is by no-means extensive. If you have a favorite business you love to shop small at, please share them in the comments!

Owned by a very dear friend of mine, Ixchel Apparel has a wonderful collection of clothes for all genders and ages. And they often have deals to save you money during the holidays.

If you’ve never heard of or used Etsy before, we can’t be friends. (Just kidding!) But seriously, Etsy is an amazing business that allows so many people to make and sell their beautiful, one-of-a-kind items. An old friend from college and her friend make beautiful, custom hats, scarves, blankets, mugs, and more. If you have a new baby in the family or just love all things knitting, be sure to check them out.

This past year I discovered Harness Magazine, a publishing platform made for women, by women. Their Instagram is a treasure trove of inspiring (and heart-wrenching) stories and their shop is full cute clothing, beautiful artwork, and digital and print versions of their magazine.

Another Etsy treasure (although she has her own website www.mccreative-studio.com as well), is k. marie design co. The business is owned by Katherine McCutcheon, a talented illustrator and designer and she offers greeting cards, custom paintings, invitation designs, and much more. I very recently purchased a custom watercolor illustration from her myself, and am absolutely in LOVE with her work.

A stationary and lifestyle brand, Rifle Paper Co. creates stunning planners, greeting cards, and various accessories. As someone who can’t live without my planner, I highly recommend you purchase your 2019 calendar needs here.

For those who don’t know me personally, I bought a house a couple years ago and am in the process of sprucing it up. While I label myself a creative, I don’t necessarily have the best time when it comes to decorating my home. My old friend, Taylor Schaap, is a talented interior designer who offers edesign and interior styling services – and is currently helping me out with updating my bathroom! If you’re in need of some home decorating or renovating, I encourage you to check her style and business out.

For all you #mombosses in the U.K. out there, I highly recommend you check out Mabel, a t-shirt company that’s representing different motherhood roles…one slogan tee at a time. (Unfortunately, I don’t believe they ship to the U.S. yet, but it’s worth following them on Instagram regardless!)

Okay, this isn’t an online shop – but I had to include this store on my list because I am in love with it. A local favorite in my hometown of Lockport, NY, Tattered Tulip is a place to find vintage and new goods for your home and garden. Honestly, I spend too much of money here – but I can’t stop.

Visit them at 4090 Lake Ave. Lockport, NY 14094.

Happy shopping!
